Summer Youth Program – Weekly Sessions
Long Island Rowing offers weekly rowing sessions throughout the summer for youths 10 to 18 years old.
There are 7 weekly sessions over the summer and a rower can sign up for one, two or any number of sessions that are convenient for the family summer schedule.
Experienced coaches are on hand to coach both experienced junior rowers who wish to maintain their spring training regiment and improve their rowing skills, and for young people who have never rowed before and wish to try the sport.
The experienced rower will receive a combination of dry land and on-water training designed to improve their conditioning and rowing skills in preparation for the fall racing season. In the summer, we focus on developing rower skills in smaller boats (singles, doubles and pairs) to improve overall balance, which is immediately transferred to the larger boats when rowers return to their fall rowing season.
Our youth Learn-to-Row program is an opportunity for a child to learn the sport of rowing through participation. While the majority of time is spent on the water, there is also dry land training and education about boats and equipment. Some impromptu racing and stops at the bakery for treats may occur. After the completion of a full week of sessions, a rower will have learned the basics of rowing and what it takes to be a competitive rower. Thereafter a rower may continue on with sessions or move on to our half day summer sessions.
Ages: 10–18 years (everybody 12 and under HAS to WEAR a life jacket at all times on the water)
Session Times: 9:20 am–2:40 pm ($300)

Session 1: June 26 – June 30
Session 2: July 3 – July 7 (no class July 4) $50 discount for the week
Session 3: July 10 – July 14
Session 4: July 17 – July 21
Session 5: July 24 – July 28
Session 6: July 31 – August 4
Session 7: August 7 – August 11
- Payment in full for first session.
- Pass the swimming test given on the first day.
- Registration is online at LIRowing.org.
What To Bring:
- Sunscreen, refillable water bottle, a change of clothing, running shoes, flip-flops.
