Long Island Rowing offers Varsity competitive rowing programs in the spring and fall.  Many of our varsity athletes anticipate rowing in college, and train to increase strength and improve their skills to compete on a collegiate level.

Training consists of both on-water rowing as well as land and gym training. Depending on the athlete's level of progress, coaches will determine which and when athletes compete in weekend regattas.

Varsity athletes must be experienced and will train 5 to 7 days per week. Boat seating is competitive and dependent on a rower's experience. Varsity athletes will attend races based on age and competitive standing i.e. freshmen, sophomore, junior or senior.

Training for Varsity requires a minimum of 5 days per week and consists of on-water rowing as well as dry land and indoor gym training.  Since weather conditions can pose an on-water training challenge, if weekday on-water training is postponed then training may be extended to Sunday depending on the regatta schedule.

Regatta Schedule - REGATTA AND SCRIMMAGE FEES ARE CHARGED IN ADDITION TO THE SEASONAL REGISTRATION FEE AND ARE THE ATHLETE’S RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY PRIOR TO RACE OR SCRIMMAGE.

IF YOU ARE SCHEDULED TO RACE AND/OR CONFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE AND PARTICPATION AT A REGATTA OR SCRIMMAGE AND THEN YOU ARE UNABLE, OR UNWILLING, TO PARTICIPATE YOU ARE STILL RESPONSIBLE TO PAY THE RACE FEE AND ANY CANCELLATION/SCRATCH FEE AS WELL.

Long Island Rowing usually participates in three to six weekend Regattas and/or scrimmages each season. Regattas are held on either Saturday or Sunday and are posted on the appropriate seasonal schedule on this website.  Please check the schedule frequently as participation rates, transportation availability and other factors may affect regatta attendance, oftentimes at the last moment. All regatta changes will be posted as they occur.

Junior Competitive Evaluation - Athletes may be required to participate in an Evaluation Weekend (date to be announced). Evaluation will involve 1,500 meter and 2,000 meter ERG races and technical evaluation.  At the close of evaluation, initial seating will be established based on weight-adjusted ERG scores and overall performance.

Junior Competitive Fall Season Fee:  $875.00
